MAY:

Sat 18th - Wildflower Walk at Berry Head

A very special opportunity to walk the wild slopes of Berry Head with botanical expert Andy Byfield, Conservation Manager at Plantlife and natural history writer in the Guardian. Andy has a great passion for the rare plants that live on our limestone slopes and his enthusiasm and knowledge inspires even the non botanists out there. This is the most stunning time of year to walk our coastal cliffs, with carpets of wildflowers set to a backdrop of blue sparkling sea, and there is no better person to bring it alive than Andy. The event will be concluded with a delicious ploughmans lunch in The Guardhouse Cafe at Berry Head. Meet: Berry Head Visitor Centre. Time: 10am – 1pm. Cost: £15 per person, with lunch. Sat 25th, Sun 26th and Mon 27th - BRIXFEST

A community event organized by local volunteers for the town and visitors to enjoy. Designed to bring together traditional events and new activities such as:

(Sat) The Heritage Sailing Trawler Rally & Race, and FIREWORKS Display.

(Sun), Tea Dance, Crabbing Competition and The Blessing of the Fleet.

(Mon) Building a Sea Serpent, Imagination Tent and Kids Karaoke.

A new and exciting Boat show highlighting the marine businesses & activities available in the unique South Devon on water area of Torbay which offers unrivalled boating, water sports facilities and opportunities.

Mon 27th May - Brixham Heritage Museum - 10am - 3pm, at Berry Head, "Napoleonic Activity Day", for youngsters, eg. toddlers to age 12. No booking required.

Tue 28th May - Brixham Heritage Museum - 10 to 12.00 (adults' session), 1pm to 3pm (children's session) session for children (1-3pm) is for age-group 8+. In the Brixham Heritage Museum, "Flint Knapping Workshop and demonstrations" no charge but pre-booking essential, on 01803 856267 with Dr Philip Armitage.

Fri 31st - Berry Head Bat Walk

A unique opportunity to see the rare Greater Horseshoe bats at Berry Head. We will begin by observing the bats in their roost using our Visitor Centre camera. Then we will take a walk, looking at how our cows help to feed the bats, before watching the spectacle of the bats emerging from their roost – tuning in with bat detectors to hear their calls. Meet: Berry Head Visitor Centre. Time: 8pm – 9.30pm. Cost: Adults £5 and Children £3.50. Booking: Essential on 01803 520022.

Trawlers race around Torbay. 11am. With stalls, entertainment, activities for children and food on the Quayside at the New Fish Market throughout the day.

Sun 23rd JuneAnnual Service of Dedication - 7.30pm -The Old Fishmarket. Join with the RNLI volunteers - Crew and Fundraisers - and the Brixham Town Band for the Annual RNLI Torbay Service of Dedication lead by Superintendent John Anderson of the RNMDSF (The Mission). Subject to operational conditions the All Weather Lifeboat will be alongside providing an impressive backdrop to this special event.

In St Mary's Park, Brixham will once again be hosting an Fri evening, followed by an all day Saturday of live music and set shows from local school choirs to a variety of vocalists and rock bands. With a collection of stalls, entertainment with rides, bouncy castles, swing boats and a Tug of War, whilst the range of refreshments available extends from seafood to hog roasts, burgers to fish and chips and with

a beer tent. A local festival, which offers a warm welcome to visitors!

Sat 27th - BRIXHAM COWTOWN CARNIVAL

Family Fun Day and Cowntown Carnival. From 12 noon. Come and join in a traditional family fun day at St Mary's Park, Higher Brixham. The day starts at St Mary's Park with many fun filled family activities from noon, including bouncy castles, face painting, beer and food area. There will also be a traditional tug of war and other games. Then the Carnival Parade, leaves the Park at 6.30pm, and makes its way through the main streets of Brixham.

Fri 2nd, Sat 3rd & Sun 4th – TORBAY STEAM FAIR

(site in field opposite Churston Farm Shop)- Take this opportunity to experience the world of steam, from large engines working as they did in days gone by, driving fairground rides, big saws, threshing drums and hauling heavy loads. A Tug of War between the steam engines is scheduled and the chance for female visitors to steer a traction engine. The Fair includes wide variety of attractions including parades of Veteran and Classic Vehicles, tractors, military vehicles, with fairground rides, arts, crafts, models and stalls selling a wide variety of merchandise. An extensive range of refreshments from local ales to pasties, hog roasts and cream teas are also available!  Fri 9th- Sun 11th -TORBAY LIFEBOAT WEEKEND

Brixham Lifeboat and Station provide the focus for a series of events, which offer up a fun packed weekend, whilst helping raise money for the RLNI. Events include Sailing Races and Angling Competitions. There is also a chance to view Torbay's Lifeboat station and lifeboat up close, with the popular Sea Safety Display providing a major spectacle at the Breakwater. Fri 23rd to Wed 28th - Torbay Week

Torbay Week is a very popular regatta with plenty of vantage points around the Bay and it attracts national and international sailors. There are plenty of onshore events for visitors as the week sees the regattas at Torbay, Paignton and Brixham combined into one event in this sheltered bay of the 'English Riviera'. Throughout the week there is a full programme of entertainment at the various yacht clubs: Babbacombe, Brixham, Paignton, Royal Torbay.  As well as food and drink, there is music, entertainment, parties, discos, hog races, fancy dress balls, and an aerial display by the Red Arrows.

Sat 17th to Sat 24th August - Brixham Society of Art Exhibition in the Scala Hall. Come along and see art by local artists.

From 11am till late. This is Brixham's very own seafood and music festival, based at the New Fish Market. An event for all the family with the chance to try a wide range of delicious food styles from fish dishes to world cuisine. On offer is also a variety entertainment, including fun activities for the children. With maritime themes and a chance to sample the fishing industry wares, the proceeds from the event benefits the Fisherman's Mission, which sits next to the quayside.
