Royal
Torbay Yacht Club Juniors put in outstanding performances in
all 3 fleets at the 2011 RS Feva World Championships
in Bruinisse Holland.
With a fleet
of 160 boats t he first two
days of Qualifying where sailed in some extremely testing conditions
with heavy winds gusting to 30 Knots+ which saw many teams retiring
due to breakages or just from shear exhaustion, however some
of the heavier teams lapped up the conditions while Torquay's
Jovian Short and James Barlow shot to the top of the leader
board as they stormed through the finish line in 1st place in
the in all three races on the first day. |
|
There where also very strong performances from Sarah
Hussey & Andy Briely, Jacob & Emma Barnett who
consistently racked up top ten results in the heavy winds during
qualifying, but as the winds dropped off the lighter
boat crews where once more in favour so it was all change places
with the final results for RTYC Juniors in the Prestigious Gold
Fleet as follows: Morgan Peach & Herbie Harford, 7th
, Jacob & Emma Barnet 15th , Jovian Short & James Barlow
20th & Sarah Hussey & Andy
Briely in 39th place overall. |
In The silver fleet,
RTYC's Ollie Wright and Luke McDermott looked set for greatness
as they commanded the lead finishing in 1st place in
the first two races of the day in the Silver fleet , but damage
to the boats rudder forced them in to retirement , while Sisters
‘Sophie & Lucy Caseldine from Stoke Gabriel sailed
consistently through out the week to achieve 2nd
place podium spot over all in the Silver Fleet .
In
the Bronze Fleet Youngest team members Max age 13 & his
10 year old Brother Cody from Brixham led the fleet
in 1st position in some very testing sailing conditions, managing
to f inish every
race in the series in spite of the conditions but where
knocked out of the 1st place podium spot on the last
day by Royal Torbay Yacht Club team members, Sisters
‘Jess & Emma Scourfielld who started
the week with a disastrous two days in qualifying but managed
to claw there way back and achieved 2 bullets on the last
day of racing that secured the girls a well earned 1st
Place & the Top podium spot Overall in Bronze ,
closely followed by Max & Cody missing out on the
2nd place podium spot by only 3points finishing in 4th place
overall.
All in
all, The juniors from Team Torbay showed there strengths and
dominated the leader boards in all three fleets every day
at this prestigious world class championship event that
is seen as a launch pad for top Olympic Yachtsman!
