Thank you for praying for David's safe arrival in Armenia yesterday, 10 June. In answer to your strong prayer, he was issued his visa at immigration without any questions asked. – Although during the day the entire media – TV and newspapers – had been running a vitriolic campaign against the ‘evil meetings organised for Yerevan by this man, David Hathaway, who is like Satan'.

Leading this very violent attack against our evangelism is the head of the Apostolic Orthodox State Church in Armenia. In the nation he has the reputation of a gangster. In years gone by, he has openly said to evangelical church leaders, “I have to kill all of you evangelical believers or put you in prison.” It is because of this man, Garegin, that laws have been passed against the evangelical churches preventing them renting public buildings and spaces, and in some cases even from using buildings they have built themselves. It is because of him that the work of Sunday Schools and social work is hindered. Now it is because of him that, when he realised the extent of our advertising last week, he put pressure on the government to stop us using the stadium – which we had legally rented and for which we have a signed contract.

But the nation is hungry for the reality of a loving God. For their sakes, pray that God will remove Garegin from the necks of the people. We need prayer that God will work a miracle and literally remove this man, one way or another.

Today pastors from all over Armenia are joining with us to pray. They need boldness from the Holy Ghost to face such irrational and extreme opposition from state church and government. – Even for being associated in some way with our meetings, they may lose their church buildings, be pressured or suffer in many other ways. The devil is at war – and we as believers, must stand and fight. For too long the church has run from the devil. The crusade must, and will , go ahead and there must be a lasting spiritual change in the nation because of it – because our God is stronger!

Another reason we cannot now be in Yerevan is that, because of political unrest, the government has put a ban on all meetings of over 100 people in Yerevan! This even includes football fans during the world cup!

The actual crusade will go ahead on Saturday and Sunday at a sports facility one hour outside Yerevan. Thank God for the leading evangelical pastor there, the director of the facility, and local government officials, who were all so touched by our evangelism there last year that, as of now, they are willing to receive us in their city! However you need to know that the Deputy to the Head of the Apostolic Orthodox Church resides in this city, and is feared by many as one who is as bad or worse than Garegin himself. Pray!

Please also pray for Pastor Karo, our primary organiser here, and his family. Earlier this week, he was summoned by the police and interrogated – and although released, the police are monitoring him constantly. Yesterday 10 June, the secret police called at the place where he is living, but he was not at home. Needless to say, he will not be going home until all this is over.

We know that, following our evangelism in Armenia last year, some of the government and police support the evangelism. A member of the parliament was to have met with David today 11 June, but under pressure has cancelled the appointment.

David says, “This is a battle for Christ's Kingdom. I have been fighting this way all my life. If we don't stand, fight, and win this battle now – how will we ever have the courage to fight the next? It is face to face, all-out war between God and the devil. What we have done, by spreading the Gospel to the whole of Armenia, is to challenge the devil on his own territory – when God wins, a nation can be won and revival break out. Pray!”

Thou, O Lord art a shield for me…

King David prayed in Psalm 3: ‘Many are they that trouble and rise up against me. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; the glory and the lifter of my head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill. I will not be afraid of the people that have set themselves against me. Salvation belongs to the Lord: His blessing is upon us.'

God's blessing is upon us as a ministry – He has heard our cry. His favour surrounds us as a shield; although we are in a battle, Jesus has already won the victory.
