Brixham
Heritage Museum Victorian Christmas Fayre
On Saturday, Dec 3rd , we held our Victorian Christmas Fayre,
opened by the Brixham Town Council Chairman, Mr Martyn Hodge.
A Grand Tombola greeted people entering the Museum through a
localised snow-fall (artificially induced of course); the tombola
was well supplied by donations from local traders.

Brixham
Christmas Carnival 2011
This year's Brixham Christmas Carnival proved to be the biggest,
brightest, loudest as it circled the town twice on Saturday
3rd December. Equally the massive waiting crowds of onlookers
lined the harbor and streets, undoubtedly encouraged by the
mild and dry weather, which made the whole event even more enjoyable!

Pete
Cole and Alan Castle Memorial Cups 2011
On Friday 20th May, following the
special darts tournament played at the Sea Anglers Club John
Tutton emerged as winner of the Pete Cole Trophy, whilst the
Alan Castle cup was won by Louise Arr.

Tres
Hombres- a Tall Ship that's back in business!
Gliding into the port on Sat 15th October, aided by the pilot
ship was Tres Hombres, a unique sailing ship with no engine,
only sail power to transport its cargo to Brixham and beyond.

Heartfelt thanks
for Torbay RNLI from cruise liner Captain
The Captain of a P & O cruise liner has sent a message
of thanks to the volunteer crew of the Torbay RNLI lifeboat
following the evacuation of a sick passenger on Monday 19th
September. Neil Turnball praises the swift and efficient response
of the emergency services when the person needed to be urgently
transferred ashore.

Brixham
Heritage Museum book launch
“Keep Smiling Through! The Brixham Home Front 1939
– 1945”.
On Saturday September 3rd guests were invited to the launch
of Samantha Little's latest book “Keep Smiling Through”, which
records the events in Brixham during the Second World War.

Living Sculpture
On Saturday 9th July at 11am local
fisherman Dean Thomas and Councillor of Torbay and Brixham Council
Vic Ellery became a living replica of the proposed statue which
will celebrate the fishing heritage of Brixham and commemorate
the fishermen of the town.

The
Battery took part in this month's English Heritage sponsored
(advertising only) HOD events on Thursday, Friday and Sunday
afternoons.
Hundreds of visitors toured the museum and 14
acres of Battery Gardens where they saw the restored harbour
defence pill-box, underground tunnel and war shelter gun-crew
rooms.

Fun for Everyone!
Fishstock 2011 attracted massive audiences to
the New Brixham Fish Market to experience a vast range of delights
including fresh cuisine, live music and have a go activities
for both parents and children to enjoy.

Local Brixham man, Colin Westlake, went with his family last
year to Zambia, and then volunteered this summer to run the
5 UK voluntary teams for Mission Direct, to complete 3 schools
for 500 orphans in the capital city of Lusaka. The 3 schools
are Kiine Garden, Garden Hill and Crown of Life, which are due
to open this September.

Brixham
Battery 'took over' Dartmouth
Castle' on Bank Holiday Monday and the following day Tuesday
August 30th in the Castle's 'Step Back In Time' event. The time
was 1940 Britain's 'Darkest Hour' as stated by Winston Churchill
(aka Dave Clarke seen in the photos inspecting the 'troops').
