This year’s winter parking promotion, which will be starting on Tuesday 1st November for off street parking and Wednesday 2nd November for on street parking, will be reflecting feedback from residents and businesses from the council’s recent Parking Review.
Residents and businesses stated that the one charge for four hours alienated a number of residents who wanted to spend a shorter period in town, so with this feedback in mind this winter the promotional charges for Torbay Council’s car parks have been amended and will be:
• 50p for 30 minutes
• £1 for up to one hour
• £1.50 for up to one and a half hours
• £2 for up to two hours.
The charge for four hours has been slightly increased to £3 and the cost of parking for 24 hours will be £5.
The cost for using on street parking has also been reviewed and will be the same price where ever you park across the Bay, except for four sites across Torbay which are used mainly by commuters. On street parking costs will be the same as parking in a car park but will also include £3 for up to three hours, £4 for up to four hours and £10 for up to 24 hours.
The commuter sites are based at Lymington Road, Magdalene Road, Newton Road, Sands Road and Steartfield Road. The cost at these sites will be:
• £1.50 for up to four hours
• £2.50 all day
Councillor Robert Excell, Executive Lead for Community Services, said: “Since last year’s winter parking promotion, and following feedback from residents through the recent Parking Survey, we have listened and a number of changes have been made. These winter prices are still cheaper than the summer charges and I am sure these will be welcomed by residents and businesses alike, and will entice residents to visit our town centres throughout the winter period.”
Torbay Council own 39 car parks across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham which provide around 7580 parking spaces across the three towns. The winter parking charges will run throughout the festive period and well into the New Year.
