Imagine Jan Turner’s shock when she opened her local newspaper and saw photos of her family staring back at her.
The photos, which were recently donated inside a tin to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust’s charity shop in Topsham, really tugged at the heart strings of the staff and volunteers.
Shop Manager Sarah Woolfenden said “We were surprised to see such lovely photos and were worried that they had been donated to us by mistake.”
She added “We put a photo of the photos onto our Facebook page and then shared it with our local newspaper. When it appeared in the newspaper we received a call from Jan.”
Jan explained “What a lovely surprise to see my family in the local newspaper. I arranged to pop into the shop and meet with Sarah to take a look through the photos. To see all my family, especially those that are no longer with us, was extremely emotional but so lovely. There were photos of my wedding day.”
Jan went on to explain “The photos belonged to my Uncle Jack of Topsham. He passed away in the 1970s so it’s really a bit of a mystery where the photos have been since then. I’d really love to know where they were found if the person who donated them is reading this.”
She added “One of my cousins Marg who is in America has been putting together our family tree and will be especially interested in the photos. I will be sending various photos to different family members and some will definitely be winging their way to the States.”
A happy ending!Follow
