Members of Torbay Green Points can now receive special offers from 10 more local independent businesses including The Sea Bank Café, Serendipity Café and Burridge’s Tea Rooms through the popular recycling rewards scheme.
Torbay Green Points is a reward scheme that launched in July 2015, encouraging all 66,000 households in Torbay to reduce the amount of residual waste sent for disposal and increase the amount of recycling. It was the first scheme in the UK to use the innovative “community points” model that is now being adopted by many other local authorities across the country.
There are over 70 local independent businesses participating in the scheme. Each local business provides a unique discount or special offer to residents who show their Recycling Rewards discount card, which they receive after signing up for the scheme.
There is a web platform and mobile app through which Torbay residents earn points, view leader boards, get news updates, and vote for local charities to support through their recycling efforts.
Residents have access to the online leader board which shows the running total of Green Points for each community, and there’s also a leader board showing the top individuals who have contributed the most points overall. Each month the six individuals who contribute the most points to their community win a £20 voucher from a choice of Love2Shop, National Garden and M&S as well as local attractions, Paignton Zoo and Torbay Velopark.
Mr Clark, owner of Serendipity Café in Torquay is proud to be part of the schemeExecutive Lead for Planning, Transport and Housing, Councillor Mark King, said: “It’s great to be able to reward residents who are trying their best to reduce their waste and recycle as much as they can by offering the discount card. And it helps support our local independent retailers too!”
Torbay Council received a grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government’s Recycling Reward Scheme which has made Torbay Green Points possible.Follow
