After the recent public recriminations towards what the general public and many Disabled Groups and individual people in need the Torbay and South Devon TC will be meeting Kevin Foster on April 1st to raise the concerns that affect the many in Torbay that are affected by cuts to living standards and daily care and independence that Government Policy has affected.
Below are some of issues that will be raised. These caused widespread splits in the Government and led to the Work and Pensions Secretary to Resign and the Chancellor to Re-Draft the Budget.
Employment Support Allowance being reduced by £30per week by 2014 some 750,000 chronically ill have had the ESA removed and over and ATOS who administered the so called Fit To Work tests have pocketed over £500m then had the contract terminated due to so many Appeals being upheld against The Means Tested Benefit.
Personnel Independent Payments – these replaced DLA. This is money to help with mobility and daily care such as paying for being aided to wash, dress and prepare food. Some 3.2 million have been listed for Re-Assessment there are huge delays in the system and cases being reported of claimants hospitalizes due to stress. The Government Reform was made mainly to make those who could work do so for low pay nothing else in many ways. It has been so far a fiasco in its infancy and will bring again another dose of unfairness that the Government calls Reform.
The Bedroom Tax – where if you Rent and are deemed to have to many bedrooms money is deducted has hit very hard many vulnerable, long term disabled and chronically ill people and is really the most unfair piece of legislation. Court Cases continue against its imposition and it should be scraped.
The Independent Living Fund – This helped 18,000 of the most severely disabled live a type of improved life. Now abolished it has taken away personnel independence. What world do we live in when we treat those most in need as unworthy of help?
Over £3.2 Billion has been cut from Social Care Budgets again causing services to be slashed, Councils being told to save but then again having to find services to the elderly and in-firmed have to be shut or scaled down. Many local Councillors are blamed and unfairly for service cuts that lack of Central Funding are to blame for.
Benefit Sanctions – taking away money from those unable to make an appointment is callous in the extreme. It takes much longer if you are unable to walk access Public Transport than of you drive if able bodied. But if your late you are sanctioned. Again what has Britain sunk to down the care ladder. The bottom and sliding further.
Council Tax Support – This was slashed and now all have to pay towards this. This includes those on Disabled Benefits and that is something the Government would not want publicity for.
Gordon Jennings Chairman and Paul Raybould secretary of Torbay and South Devon TC will be meeting Mr Foster MP on April 1st.
