Sad to say, but BrixhamNews.com having been launched in Jan 2004 will no longer exist after April 2018!
After many months of deliberation, we have decided to call it a day due to changing circumstances and a desire to move on to fresh fields.
For those unaware, BrixhamNews.com was launched with a story on the Jan 1st 2004, down on the Breakwater Beach. After chatting to the New Year’s Day Swimmers setting off to swim to Shoalstone Pool and back, they agreed to us taking their photo and sharing their exploits on the new online community news website, our aim being to encourage a space for positive local news and promoting the area to those beyond at the same time. Over the years many thousands have regularly logged on, up and down the Nation and in places far away as Tennessee and New Zealand, joining with those in Torbay to see items of local news and interest.
As the website grew, a steady stream of press releases, events information and items came in creating quite a large site. Then a local monthly magazine already circulating around the town, together with Brixham for the Visitor, produced annually, were purchased and developed by BrixhamNews.com, as off line publications.
For those who can remember The Brixham Bay Monthly, it promoted local businesses, whose advertising generated the pages containing a few articles from the website promoting local events and achievements in and around Brixham, with 10,000 free copies distributed monthly. Meanwhile Brixham for the Visitor did what it said on the cover, promote all things Brixham to holidaymakers in the area, encouraging them to visit the port and enjoy its local amenities and attractions!
Following the 2008 recession a lot of interest in advertising faded away and with the closure of the magazine’s distribution company, Brixham Bay Monthly came to an end, although Brixham businesses continued to support the Brixham for the Visitor publication, which we were able to distribute ourselves, so it appeared for a few more years.
Then in 2014 we launched the new look BrixhamNews.com website incorporating links to social media. This resulted in not only an increase in traffic, but an increase in items sent and posted about what was going on in the community, shared through a variety of internet platforms.
Having envisaged and created an online community news paper at a time when broad sheets, tabloids still ruled the way in which people chose to read news items, over time Fleet Street and and local papers have developed and established their own online sites, until online news has became the norm. Today though, online newspapers are often not even the first port of call in the search to locate and share local and international news, as Twitter, Facebook and other media sources are constantly being used and developed.
Thus it seems time for another change for us too and we would like to thank all those who have supported the vision we had for the BrixhamNews.com website over the years, by either reading, or sending information to share with the community and beyond, or in many cases both!
So THE LAST READ on BrixhamNews.com will be on MONDAY 30th APRIL and there will be no May Newsletter.
As of the end of April the website will no longer be available online and also the email sent to the address email@example.com will reach us so any mail sent cannot be responded to either, following this date.
Thank You Once Again for all your support …. from the Team here at BrixhamNews.comFollow
