I originally joined Weight Watchers January 2007 at the age of 19. I had never really been overweight but I was in a long term relationship and the weight just crept on. Before I knew it I was 14 stone and one of my colleagues from work was joining, so I thought I would too.
I was in the right frame of mind, although I was skeptical at first, but then I met the lovely leader who got me to my goal and supported me every step of the way, so that within a year I was 4 stone lighter and 6 dress sizes smaller.
I loved the points system, I enjoyed knowing that if I stuck to my budget I would lose weight and I didn’t miss out, as long as I tracked the points. I managed to maintain my weight loss through my relationship breakdown and since meeting the man that is now my husband, I began living the life a 20 year old should have been living. I loved being more confident and after my husband proposed on Teignmouth Beach, I loved being able to pick a wedding dress off the rack, whilst enjoying a fantastic wedding on board a cruise ship (I never thought anyone would get me on a boat)!
So after 3 years mostly maintaining my weight, I fell pregnant with my daughter and lived off takeaways and unhealthy choices, which was really getting me down, as I was undoing all my hard work. I had my daughter, a lovely bundle of joy and before I knew it I was pregnant with my son, so I had no time to get back to Weight Watchers.
After I had my son I knew I had to get back to a meeting, I knew I couldn’t do it on my own, I needed to get on the scales in front of someone, someone who would ask me what have I done to get to that result.
I joined again in July 2012, at the Kingsteignton meeting and met the local leader who again was so inspirational and understanding. I also met my friend Hannah who I have formed a great friendship with and I could not have done it without her.
I was so glad the points system was still there, I loved the fact I have regained control of my portion sizes, feeding the family on healthy choices. After all it’s a lifestyle choice not a diet. I loved being able to enjoy a takeaway or a glass of wine, whilst not worrying about it. My goal this time was to walk the kids to the park. One step at a time, I joined this time weighing in at 14st 8.5lb.I wasn’t in a rush to lose my weight, I was in this for the long haul, Hannah and I traveled round following our leader to her meetings. I decided that actually I could do this, I had always wanted to, so I put in my application to become a leader!
The training was great, although it was a lot to take in, and I overcame a lot in the process. Eventually on the 11th November, a day I will never forget, I got to my Goal 10st 8.5lb. I was 4 stone lighter and I couldn’t have been happier!
Now not only can I walk the kids to the park, I can walk them to school and back, which is an hour in its self, and I don’t have to rely on an inhaler. I also got the job that I had been longing for.
I have been there, I know its not a straight line from A to B, but you will get there and I will be there to support you along the way. Just like I got there with the support of my leader and friends I made along the way, so that’s me that’s my Weight Watchers journey!
