Brixham U14s 0-10 Kingsbridge U14s
Great performance by Brixham today against a Kingsbridge side who will be defending the Devon title in a couple of weeks , the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game, Brixham under lots of pressure from the well structured visitors however the Brixham side showed the recent improvements and made Kingsbridge work hard in scrums and in defence. Kingsbridge were stronger at quicker at breakdowns and it was just the wind that made the difference in the first half, a strong clearance kick was collected well on the touchline by Marcelle Purchase and returned with interest as he scored out wide.
The second half again greatly contested and although Brixham had several attacks into the opponents half it was a strong defence who kept them at bay, the decisive try came towards the end of the game when Kingsbridge secured victory with a rumble over the line.
Brixham Man of the Match was Scott Hedges
This was part of a 3 way game today with our tourists Alton RFC and the other fixture ended Kingsbridge 12-5 Alton U14s
Brixham U14s 17-5 Alton U14s
After watching Alton play a quality game verses Devon champs Kingsbridge, Brixham knew that it would be a hard slog, with a large squad today rotations were made and they paid off as all who were asked to step up did exactly that. Brixham started strongly and were held back by a well disciplined Alton side, the half was well contested by both but it was Man of the Match Joss Greenway who picked from the base of a scrum and powered over the line showing great body position to score. HT came and a slender lead for Brixham 5-0.
The second half was as well contested but again Greenway who was the first to a breakdown picked from a breakdown at the 22 and scored uncontested, Brad McKee added the extras from wide. Brixham continued to press and although attempts through the backline were thwarted the forwards continued to phase well and Harry Davies powered from the base of a ruck to score. Alton were not finished and had the last word on the day as they picked a well deserved try at the death with a great pick and go move of their own.
A great day in great spirits from all, many thanks to Kingsbridge and Alton.
Man of the Match…..Joss Greenway by both Brixham and Alton.Follow
