Do you have a passion for the water and want to make a difference in your community? The RNLI is looking for volunteers in Torquay and Brixham to join its coastal safety team to help educate and advise on how best to stay safe at sea and by the coast.
Working as part of a team, the coastal safety advisor will help implement safety initiatives designed to tackle common causes of lifeboat incidents. This role is suited for somebody who’s passionate about safety and saving lives through prevention, has a background in water activities and enjoys talking to people
John Turner is the lifeboat coastal safety officer. He says: ‘This is a great volunteer opportunity for somebody who is passionate about keeping water users safe and to try to reduce the amount of people getting into difficulty around our coast. The role is extremely varied and includes working with other organisations and individuals, including likeminded folk within the team of advisors and lifeboat team.
‘I find my role to be extremely satisfying and also a lot of fun. When someone tells you that ‘if I had not listened to you we would have been in very serious trouble’ it makes all my efforts worthwhile.
‘Anybody interested in finding out more can contact me on 07866 689315.’
