Have you ever wondered how it would feel to lose your memory? Which part of your life would no longer exist in your mind? This of course, is just the start of dementia. Through the days and months which follow, individuals living with this condition lose their dignity, their privacy and awareness of their surroundings therefore can feel isolated, vulnerable and alone. Approximately 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK with 60,000 having been diagnosed before the age of 60.
It is incredibly important that we continue to raise awareness across the globe as by 2020, it is thought there will be approximately 1 million people in the UK with the condition who of course, will all require care.
On 19th March 2016, we made history by holding the World Rocks Against Dementia (WRAD) event. This was an event held in 15 Countries and 29 Cities including China, New Zealand, Texas, Nepal to name a few. Across the globe everyone who supported the events stood as one, united to raise awareness and funds to ensure we provide better care and support to all who need it. We must not let dementia be the forgotten illness anymore.
In addition to the event, we released a charity single ‘Within My Mind’. The words have been written by Norman McNamara who was diagnosed with dementia aged 50 and are poignant, heartfelt and sincere. The music has been beautifully composed by Musical Director Rob Young who has captured the very essence of the condition through every note and envelopes the listener with hope for the future. The song has been performed by the wonderful Tenor Tyrone Piper and the Plymouth Military Wives Choir and has received the most wonderful feedback already.
I’d be very grateful if you would download and endorse this single (available on iTunes) to promote further awareness and much needed funds to make WRAD even more successful in 2017. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could make a song about dementia a number One?? I believe it is worthy of the title ‘Chart Topper’ and you can help get it there.
