Last month we suggested you could beat the cold by enjoying a free taste of country blues round the roaring fire at the Maritime Inn at Brixham’s regular second-Thursday blues night.
Unfortunately, guest duo Bob Long and Lorna Franklin who were to have travelled all the way from Hampshire, (where Bon runs a monthly blues jam at The Platform Tavern in Southampton) failed to escape colds which forced them to cancel at the last moment.
However, Brixham Blues fans should not despair because they’ve now recovered and will perform a lively evening of acoustic county blues in Brixham next Thursday – January 12th .
Bob (http://www.bobalong.co.uk/home.html ) is a superb guitarist and harmonica player specialising in pre-World War 2 blues, jug band and ragtime material, particularly from the Mississippi Delta and Memphis. He frequently visits the Mississippi Delta where he has played at the Clarksdale, Mississippi Juke Joint Festival four times, at countless blues clubs and on Sonny Payne’s legendary King Biscuit Time radio show. Lorna Franklin provides vocals in the style of the 1920s blues stars.
Resident duo Devon Delta will supply the support and expect floor spot performances from some of Devon’s best bluesmen and women. And, of course, there’ll be the infamous idiosyncratic raffle.
