Popular Brixham pub, The Blue Anchor, has been given a £122K makeover thanks to pub operator Punch and publican, Jerry Davis.
The Blue Anchor is a well established pub on Fore Street at the heart of the harbour side community, popular with fishermen and locals as well as the tourists in the summer months.
In need of an update, the pub has been refreshed throughout but still retains its authentic fishing village pub feel. Externally, new signage has been installed and the pub has been redecorated improving its kerb appeal.
Publican, Jerry Davis, explains: “It was very important to me to ensure that the aesthetic changes that we made did not alter the overall atmosphere of The Blue Anchor. The L-shaped bar lends itself to generating chat between our customers, with regulars and newcomers always commenting on how sociable the pub is. Internally, the layout hasn’t really changed apart from small alterations to the bar and some of the seating areas. The bulk of the work has been redecoration including new carpet and floor coverings, new sanitary ware in the toilets and general repairs. We have received some very positive comments from our regulars who are pleased to have a brighter, fresher environment to relax in and enjoy a drink or meal.
“By working in partnership with Punch, I’ve been able to give The Blue Anchor the boost it deserves. I’ve received some great support and training and now have a pub to be proud of. I look forward to developing the pub offer further as we head towards the summer and the popular tourist season.”
The Blue Anchor offers six real ales, a selection of single malt whiskeys and a wide range of wines with plans to introduce a wine club in the near future. In terms of food, everything is home cooked and locally sourced, with meat coming from a local award-winning, family-run farm and fresh fish from local fishermen. Snacks and main meals are available with regular theme nights planned too. A loyalty scheme for customers will be introduced soon.
Live music and the popular open mike events continue to be a focal point of The Blue Anchor’s entertainment programme, alongside the Sunday quiz.
Commenting on behalf of Punch, Chris Hunt, new business development manager, said: “The refurbishment has improved the customer experience without detracting from The Blue Harbour’s traditional pub charm. I’m looking forward to continually supporting Jerry and his team as they build on the pub’s success going forward.”Follow
