Of course, FRESH SEAFOOD is an equally important feature of Fishstock Festival: our VIP chef team (Cooks on a Mission) will be cooking up a storm on the day, demonstrating how to prepare the tasty seafood on offer. In the meantime, our seasonal recipe for May is John Dory cooked in a foil pouch with lemon, fennel, olives and white wine sauce: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish-recipes/fish-in-a-bag/

News from The Fishermen’s Mission
Fishstock regulars will know that the festival is staged to raise funds for the Fishermen’s Mission. Area Superintendent John Anderson reports that Port Officers in Plymouth have been helping a homeless ex-fisherman, whilst the Weymouth office has been assisting a mother who lost her fisherman son to the sea and was seeking financial support and advice. Teamwork is again enabling the Mission to reach those needing services the most; this teamwork means people are helped in many different ways – sometimes a simple listening ear is required, whilst other issues are far more complex to solve.
Hospital and home visits were undertaken as the need arose, and staff continue to be available for a chat during those visits, in the office or by telephone. The Mission has again had to deal with injuries, a reminder that sea fishing is the most dangerous peacetime occupation, making injuries almost inevitable. It is hoped that the combined efforts of Mission staff with community interaction alongside other safety-minded organisations will continue to educate (and alleviate) situations where injury is most likely to occur.
The Mission will continue to deliver pastoral, welfare and financial care and advice to fishermen, their families and the fishing communities they are in touch with. Later this month interviews take place for a replacement Mission Area Officer based in Brixham. Numerous applications have been received and the Mission is confident that a suitable candidate will be appointed to continue the valuable work undertaken.
The first of two additional summer fundraisers (to boost the overall amount raised for the Mission this year) took place at Rockfish Brixham on Wednesday 10 May. Over fifty guests enjoyed a scrumptious 3 course meal overlooking the beautiful harbour at Brixham and won prizes in an amazing raffle with many generous donations from local businesses and individuals. Guests were snapped throughout the evening by local photographer ‘Shot By Rob’ (view pictures at: http://www.devonlive.com/pictures/shotbyrob-fishstock-brixham-fish-supper-wednesday/pictures-30327351-detail/pictures.html
