May I respond to the article in The Brixham News and The Herald & Express letters concerning Brixham Council.
I am weary of the constant diatribe from Chris Lomas and his friends, wanting to get rid of Brixham Council.
Let us get things straight, if Brixham does not have its own voice it will be swallowed up by Torquay, shear maths prove this, any time there is a vote in the Torbay Council Torquay Councillors can always out vote Paignton & Brixham, and of course if they are good councillors the needs of Torquay will always come first. Do not be fooled in thinking we are now all Torbay just look at how much money goes into Torquay in comparison with Paignton & Brixham.
It is important that we have an elected voice, not people who think they know what is best for our town e.g. Brixham 21, with a democratic mandate the people elected can feel confident that they have our backing and Brixham really does need a voice.
Without Brixham Council we would not have Shoalstone swimming pool, without Brixham Council no theatre or Town Hall. Yes! Torbay has played dirty with us and yes we do want our £37,000 pounds but I would suggest there is no way we would have any chance if Chris Lomas and friends have their way.
I would beg people to think very carefully before voting for any one onto a council in order to get rid of it, not very open is it? So please vote for Brixham Councillors who love Brixham and want to have a voice to protect us from the juggernaut which is Torquay.
