A protest organised by 3 Towns Peoples Assembly was held Today from 11am to 1pm at Torquay Library the host venue for Kevin Foster Torbay MPs Constituency Surgery this week over his voting to cut the Employment Support Allowance for the Disabled by £30 per week.
Thus taking it down to just over £73 per week or the same as Job seekers as the Government has deemed that you are fit to work even if a Fit for Work Assessment deems your not.
Mr Foster is not alone as over 300 Conservative MPs and many others in The South West voted for this.
Protesters lobbied the MP outside the Library for some 25 minutes on the ESA issue and the recently announced Cuts to other Disabled Benefits affecting mobility payments. It was a peaceful protest that was well supported and got quite vocal. Some protesters queued outside the surgery and Mr Foster spoke to at least one protestor.
Mr Foster has agreed to meet Paul Raybould secretary of Torbay and South Devon TUC who attended the event and Gordon Jennings Chairman over the issues being demonstrated about. He was thanked for this.
