A Brixham businesswoman is the latest recruit to join the Rotary Club of Brixham, following a tradition set by her father, The Late Methodist Archbishop Roger Uwadi, who was a Rotarian in Nigeria.
Dr Chibuzor Rogers-Uwadi (known as Chichi) is the Optometrist Director at Brixham’s Specsavers Opticians.
Chichi told the Brixham Rotarians that it was very special occasion for her as her late father had also been a Rotarian.
John Burt, the President of Brixham Rotary Club, welcomed Chichi during one of the Club’s regular meetings and said he was delighted to welcome her into the club. “She will be a worthy representative of our club,” he said.
Dr Rogers-Uwadi said “This is an exciting and emotional moment for me. My father used to talk to me about the Rotary motto – Service above Self – and this is a guiding maxim for me in my life. My father would have been so proud to see me join Brixham Rotary. It is an honour to become a Rotarian.”
Chichi takes the total membership of Brixham Rotary up to twenty four.
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is undertaking a national membership recruitment campaign and is looking for women and men of all ages to join their local clubs and make a world of difference to their local community.
