Brixham 5-22 Ivybridge
The first game in wet and very heavy conditions turned out to be a great game of rugby with both sides adapting well to the shocking conditions, Ivybridge have always been strong opponents and today was no different, it did show however the improvement in Brixham as they again closed the scoreline against recent fixtures between the two sides.
Ivybridge started at pace and scored from the first attack of the game, their powerful number 8 picked from the base of a scrum to open the scoring, a great conversion from out wide in poor conditions was to take them into an early lead.
Brixham were not to be held back and took the game back to Ivybridge, several attacks and some great control in the conditions was a great way forward however the Ivy defence along with expected mistakes in the conditions kept Brixham from crossing the line. Ivy continued to pick up the chances and moved into a comfortable lead after a charge down and two sets of flowing back moves, no further conversions but they held a commanding lead at half time.

As the conditions became worse Brixham were starting to find their feet up front and also started to put together some great flowing moves in the backline, all in atrocious conditions. Brixham had lots of possession and gained great ground, Jamie Dewhirst and Harry Davies seemed to flourish in the deteriorating conditions and put in phase after phase breaking the gain line. Finally after several moves Jason Capaldi drove several defenders over the line to claim a well deserver try for the team, Brad McKee kicked from wide but just brushed the wrong side of the upright. Brixham continued to press and played the better side in the second half, Ivybridge however were strong in defence and as always dangerous on the attack.
The sides had become unrecognisable in the mud and although both sides continued to the end no further scores were to come, Brixham were happy with an improved second half performance that kept a clean sheet along with the only try of the half.
Well played to two great sides who gave all to perform today in conditions that made it hard work from the start.
