Both sides were without a fixture so agreed to play a training fixture, Paignton needed more game time for players and Brixham agreed to play the first half with what has been the normal bench and started new players also today, this made for a very competitive half with Paignton moving into an early lead with a strong run from a good shape 3/4 come prop who carried well all game, under the posts and converted to lead by 7. Brixham were soon competitive and both sides settled down to some end to end rugby showing recent improvements in the Paignton side and some development for the Brixham new boys and those who don’t normally start fixtures.
Brixham regained the lead before halftime with two well taken tries from Jamie Dewhirst and Scott Hedges; Matt Selman had good direction on both conversion attempts but was just shy on power.
Half Time Brixham 10-7 Paignton
Only a couple of changes at halftime for Brixham however they started to take control of the game , tries from Harry Davies and speedster Will Passmore moved Brixham clear, Selman converted one from out wide. More pressure brought a well worked try for Ben Mortimer to stretch the lead further. A few more changes with 20m to play and Brixham continued to press, Paignton however still competed well and it took some great defence work to keep them out.
Passmore and Davies scored one more each out wide and both were converted by Brad McKee who had joined the game, a final flurry and a hatrick for Passmore was joined by a hatrick of kicks from out wide by McKee.
Well played to Paignton who battle to the end and played with great spirit, well played to the Brixham lads who started and showed they were worthy of the game.
