From Monday 15th May the community will see him at work around the streets and harbour area of the town initially but it is already planned that as the job develops other shopping areas of the town will also be included as the Council seek to provide an enhanced and responsive level of service which will result in the improvement of the environment.
The Lengthsman is being tasked to remove and control weeds and other vegetation, grass cutting, removal of graffiti and such other tasks that may be required in order to deliver the improvements that the community are seeking.
Town Clerk Tracy Hallett describes the appointment as a significant and highly visible demonstration of Brixham Town Council’s determination to provide the community with a service that feedback from previous consultations has highlighted.
“Members of the public, including our many visitors will be in no doubt that the Lengthsman is employed by Brixham Town Council on their behalf as he will be wearing clothing and driving a van emblazoned with the Council logo”, says Tracy.
“He will also be the eyes and ears of the council out on the street and will be able to feed back any concerns with regards to vulnerable parishioners, anti-social behaviour or other concerns that we can either deal with directly or take up with the appropriate authorities.
But most of all his appearance on our streets signals that Brixham Town Council are listening to the public and responding with services that they want and this will continue to be our approach going forward”.Follow
