Brixham Gig Club Ladies A took a spectacular victory at the Dart Gig Club lay up race on the 4th of October. The race has always been the season ender for Brixham and has so far proved rather fruitful in the past and 2015 is no different.
The crew of Stephanie Blackler, Sue Putt, Leigh Bower, Sarah David, Jennie Everill, Justine Pilkington cox Dave Morralley lead the race from Dartmouths Higher Ferry to Dittisham from start to finish seeing off a challenge from Darts own Ladies A with the lead never stretching to more than a length and a half until the closing 100 meters where Brixham used their finishing sprint to good effect.
Brixham rowers were also on hand to aid near neighbours Paignton and hosts Dart with Karen Marshall sitting in with the Paignton crew of Ana de la Fuente, Tracey Western, Alison Whitehead, Gill Knight, Debbie Hopper cox Paul Tucker taking 3rd place over Salcombe, and Kathryn Ashworth rowing stroke for the Dart C crew.
After a short break at Dittisham it was the turn of the men to race back. It quickly became apparent that this would be a 2 boat race between the Dart A crew and the Brixham B Crew. The Brixham crew of Craig Thomas, Ben Trayhorn, Karl Oakley, Chris Mason, Kevin Thomas, Steven Marshall cox Dave Morralley lead the race off the start and where never more than half a length down until the 3 quarter distance point where the hosts vast experience and home support proved the difference with them just edging ahead but unlike most of the races this season the Dart crew did not have the winning margin they are used to with both crews fighting hard to the finish.
Again Brixham men also lent their efforts to other clubs with Lance Worthington sitting in with Darts B Crew who narrowly lost out on 3rd to Brittania Royal Navy College and Tim Colliver who assisted a mixed crew for Paignton by rowing in the stroke seat.
With the seasons racing now finished the club would like to once again thank our sponsors and supporters.Follow
