Brixham Gig Club travelled to West Bay for Bridport regatta on 3rd July and had their best regatta outside of home waters in the clubs history and the best points tally ever.
In the Mens races the A crew of Karl Oakley, Ash Turner, Matt Scoble, James Agates, Stevie Reece, Simon Mitchell and Cox Dave Morralley finished in second place.
The B crew out to defend their victory from last year did so well with the crew of Craig Thomas, Ben Trayhorn, Tim Colliver, Chris Mason, Kevin Thomas, Mark Ashworth and cox Lance Worthington winning the race in the same race Kevin Thomas returned to racing after a long time absent through illness.
The C crew were the only Brixham crew to finish outside of the top 3 at the regatta and this was only due to a crash whilst the crew was in second place however the crew of Alec Slater, Pete Dadley, Steve Colbrooke, Joe Nisbett, Bruce Nisbett and Dan Everill continued to row hard and eventually finished fifth.
The Vets crew carried on the good performances and the crew of Lance Worthington, Dave Morralley, Tim Colliver, Mac MacClean, Pete Scoble and Mark Ashworth came in third place, this crew was back out again with one change Mark Ashworth swapping out for Kevin Thomas so that the crew could row the supervets race again coming in third.
In the Ladies races the good results continued with the Ladies A crew Steph Blackler, Mary Currie, Leigh Bower, Sarah David, Jenny Everill and Sue Putt bagging another third place for Brixham.
The B ladies Emma Trayhorn, Eve Buckley, Fiona Slater, Kate Everill, Val MacClean and Caroline Dadley had one of their best results finishing second.
The Ladies C crew also finished second in their race putting the points on the board for Brixham were the crew of Tracy Stoneman, Sasha Adamson, Jodie Ellis, Katharyn Ashworth, Andi Colliver and Becca Chappell.
The Vets crew of Bev Worthington, Sarah David, Sarah Tingle, Amy Plowman, Karen Marshall and Andi Colliver continued the run of second place finishes keeping Brixham in touch of the top of the table.
The Supervets crew of Sarah Tingle, Bev Worthington, Amy Plowman, Karen Marshall, Caroline Dadley and Sue Putt put in a storming performance to take the victory in the race Brixhams first victory in this category for either ladies or men.
The Under 16s crew of Bess Ashworth, Anna Nisbett, Joe Nisbett, Ellie Goodman, Katie Trayhorn and Joss Greenway had one of the best races of the day narrowly missing out on victory to the home club to take second place.
The final race of the day was the mixed race and this race proved all important for the championship of the day with Brixham, Lyme Regis and hosts Bridport all in contention going into the race the Brixham crew of Mary Currie, Ash Turner, Karl Oakley, Emma Trayhorn, James Agates and Racheal Atterbury clinched the championship of the day by winning the race in emphatic style.
This means that for the second week running Brixham Gig Club have won the overall championship adding Bridport to last weeks Mevagissey championship.
The next event for Brixham Gig Club is a trip across the bay to Paignton on July 9th and we would urge any fans of Brixham gig club to make the short jaunt to support the club ahead of our own regatta on the 6th of August.Follow
