On Sunday 13th September Brixham Gig Club added a 4th boat to their fleet.
The boat was christened “Arion” by the Club Chairman Kevin Thomas and blessed by the Vicar Elizabeth Lakey at a ceremony over at the clubs new home at the Breakwater slipway. The ceremonial first row was undertaken by Lance Worthington, Karen Marshall, Annick
Hammersly, Caroline Dadley, Jodie Ellis, Linda McRea coxed by Kevin Thomas and Pilot Joe Butler
Arion is a fibreglass boat that will be used for training all year round as these boats are not permitted for racing, she was purchased from Dartmouth gig club and was formerly called Dart however thanks to Simon Beer she was taken away and refurbished over a few weeks and the club would like to thank him for his efforts.
After the launch ceremony there was some fun racing between the Arion and the clubs first boat Trojan who is also fibreglass.
The 3 races took place in the harbour due to adverse conditions beyond the breakwater, the final result saw Trojan winning 2 of the 3 races and concluded the afternoon before the weather turned for the worse.
