BrixFest fundraiser was ‘a grand’ affair

8 February, 2017 by editor

Brixfest Fundraiser Group

BrixFest’s sell-out fundraiser on Sunday (Feb 5th) raised a more than £1,000 towards the May bank holiday festival.

The fundraiser, which was also a celebration of BrixFest’s sixth anniversary, was staged at The Old Market House, Brixham for the third year running.

More than 80 people, including BrixFest volunteers and local business owners, were entertained during dinner by singers Sandy Sparkle and Rhianan Moore.

BrixFest chairman Sophie Bower says: “£1,160 is a staggering amount to raise and the BrixFest committee is overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community which came out in force to support the festival.

Sandy Sparkle

We’d like to thank the team at The Old Market House and Sandy and Rhianan for the wonderful entertainment.

Without the help of friends, volunteers and local business owners the festival could not take place.”

Work on the May 2017 bank holiday event is well advanced and confirmed sponsorship from Hewitt Hire and safety and support from the Torbay Sea School has already ensured the return of the highly-popular Dragon-boat Challenge, which was launched at last year’s festival.

The Challenge is a whole day event which will take place off the Breakwater on Sunday 28th May.

Each team, which will race over 200 metres, will comprise ten rowers and a drummer – all of whom must be over-16 and water confident.

Local B&B owners fielded last year’s winning team (Buoys and Belles).

Individuals or businesses wishing to enter a team can email contact@brixfest.com or telephone 01803 858488.
