Disabled gardeners in Brixham will be able to grow their greens and beans in comfort thanks to a new purpose-built facility.
A raised allotment bed has been provided in Stoney Park Allotment with a donation from Brixham Rotary Club.
The Stoney Park Allotment Association approached the Rotary Club of Brixham in order to provide the specially-built allotment bed.
Based near Furzeham Green, Brixham, the Stoney Park Allotment site is long established in the town and gives people the opportunity to enjoy fresh vegetables who might otherwise miss out on gardening experiences.
The cost of the bed was £1,412 and Brixham Rotary Club donated £902 with the remainder coming from a Rotary district grant. Brixham belongs to the Rotary District 1175 which comprises the South West Peninsula of England.
Graham Bestley, President of Brixham Rotary said: “We were pleased to help out the Stoney Park Allotment Association with this much-needed raised bed. Allotment gardening is a very rewarding pastime and can contribute greatly to the quality of peoples’ lives.”
“Rotary District grants fund small-scale activities that address the needs of the community and we were grateful to receive this money to top up our donation.”
