Torbay children attract crowds to Chelsea Flower Show exhibit

Yesterday was the first day of the Chelsea Flower Show, where members only could visit.

Jenny Harriman reports “A large crowd were gathered around the Miracle-Gro stand where a vegetable garden had been set out using grow bags which looked like willow baskets but were filled with a wide range of vegetables grown by children from across the country.

The stand was surrounded by brightly coloured pencils that usually are seen in children's playgrounds and the backdrop was the school wall with vertical tomato planting.

In the forefront was the Brixham Church of England Primary School grow bag with shallots sprouting. Stoodley Knowle School also had their produce on show.

It was wonderful to think that Torbay youngsters had made it to this international stage and that they were exciting so much attention.

It was great to see so much interest this year in vegetable growing with the Waitrose stand a stunning combination of flowers and vegetables in tonal hues to represent the seasons.”
