The Society has now presented another £1,000 cheque to match last years figure, which was collected via in-store collection tins, fundraising events and the cash equivalent, donated by the Society, of 20% of the dividend points collected by members whilst shopping at Your Local Co-op Fore Street and Great Rea throughout the 2008-09 financial year.

The funds raised were handed over in time to give the group the chance to make use of the money during the pools summer open season.

The cheque presentation took place at Shoalstone Pool on Monday 1 st June, at the start of the pools summer season. The £1,000 cheque was presented to members of The Friends of Shoalstone Pool by Sue Wheatley, store manager of Your Local Co-op Great Rea and Peter Sleep, former store manager of Your Local Co-op Fore Street, who is now managing the Society's Ipplepen store.

Rowan Molesworth, Chairman, Friends of Shoalstone Pool said “We are extremely pleased to receive another cheque for £ 1,000 raised by local Co-op members. Shoalstone Pool is a unique free facility enjoyed by both visitors and locals alike. Donations like this go along way to keeping the pool open throughout the summer months as we are solely reliant on donations from the public, groups and organisations like the Co-op. I believe the pool will be extremely busy this summer, due to the fact the pool is looking great and it looks like the weather is on our side”.

Sue Wheatley, Store Manager at Your Local Co-op Great Rea said “It is fantastic that all the hard work by staff and members collecting money over the last 12 months can now be passed on the pool so that it can continue to be a great asset to the local area. The Co-op has always been proud of the work it does for the local community and to see a very worthy local project receive money is great”.
