Brixham Fun Day Families enjoying the free rides and activites

Brixham Fun Day 2009

With plenty of sunshine, the Brixham Fun Day was a huge success! Many Brixham families and visiting families enjoyed all the FREE rides, games and activities on Furzeham Green.

The Brixham Young Volunteers from Y.E.S.(Youth enquiry service) organised and ran the FREE event with the help of the Y.E.S. staff and H.Y.P.A. (Helping young people achieve) group, using funding secured from the Big Lottery Funding.

From 12 noon the people and families arrived to enjoy the activities, rides and refreshments including free fruit and panninis made to order by the young volunteers and the Salvation Army Food Van serving up burgers. With the Young Volunteers helping all around the event in their Fun Day t-shirts including face painting, bouncy castles donkey rides and the rock wall with long queues forming,as everyone keen to have a go!

Feature items included clay making activity run by Sarah Jones a local South Devon College student allowing young people and families to make clay men based on the Anthony Gormley Exhibition at Torre Abbey. The results will be shortly on display at Brixham Heritage Museum. There was also the Brixham Library stall with the Guest Seekers encouraging young readers to read books over the summer and an I-Pod Shuffle competition for those who read 6 books.

With music playing throughout the day, live bands arrived from 6 to 10pm and Palm FM radio.

There will be a Review of the event by the Young Volunteers to follow….
