What a fantastic facility, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike! Check out the outdoor seawater Pool this summer. Why not join The Friends of Shoalstone Pool, who each year work so hard to maintain the Pool and raise funds to ensure this valuable, historic site remains intact and a part of the Brixham landscape.
Click through to their website for more information about how you can become involved in preserving the Pool, which started out life as a natural rock pool used by Victorian bathers and was developed into its present concrete form in 1926. Bathing in this unique seawater pool has been enjoyed for decades, although it was closed during the Second World War. Much later as the community were enjoying their bathing once more, it’s future grew more uncertain and eventually Torbay Council said that it could no longer guarantee the Pool’s funding in 2004.This generated a meeting and the formation of a working party to keep the Pool going. That party became The Friends of Shoalstone Pool.
Today the site of the Pool also has beach huts and a mural created by Bristol artist Luke Cornish with the help of pupils from Brixham College. For all the details and history about Shoalstone Pool go to http://www.shoalstoneseawaterpool.co.uk
