Do you look at the world and despair? Wars, rumours of wars, outrageous persecution of people at the hands of those professing to know God? Economic meltdowns? Increasing numbers of natural disasters? And what’s next?
Well, the Bible has many prophecies, or predictions made by God through His prophets, as to what will happen to this world. However many people feel the Bible is nothing more than a mythical journal, fantasy stories that have a moral twist. Nevertheless the first books of the Bible, that Christians call the Old Testament, were given to the earliest Jewish people as the Tanakh, written by their scribes, who were very careful in writing down what God said was the historical development of their society.
Indeed many things predicted by the first part of the Bible, or the Old Testament, did come to pass. This included Jesus being crucified. This event is mentioned in the book of Psalms and then again his type of death is described quite accurately by the prophet Isaiah in chapter 53, more than 600 years before Christ walked in Jerusalem! Yet many people believe that Jesus was a mythical character, however esteemed Roman–Jewish Historian Josephus Titus Flavius wrote about Jesus’s existence. He qualified historical aspects of the four Gospels, found in the New Testament, which were written as eyewitness accounts of Christ’s life, by Jesus’s followers.
Another important prediction, or prophesy by many of the Jewish prophets, was the scattering of the people of Israel throughout the world and the eventual reforming of the nation of Israel in 1948, which took place in the land they originally inhabited before they were scattered. Again this prediction can be found in many of the books of the prophet’s in the Bible, such as Ezekiel 36, verse 24-26 and Amos 9 verse 14-15, also thousands of years before it happened. Isaiah in chapter 66, verse 7-8, even suggests that Israel could be reborn in one day, which it was!
Some of the prophecies mentioned in the Bible, whether in the Old Testament or New Testament, have yet to be realized. If you read in Daniel (Old Testament) or in Revelation the last book in the New Testament of the Bible, they both talk of the return of Jesus Christ, and the rise of the Antichrist!
Many thought that Hitler could be the Antichrist who came to destroy the Jews and set up a one world government, but as Hitler failed, so the Antichrist is still to be revealed. Nevertheless the Antichrist, or man of lawlessness that the Bible describes, could gain power, especially if another world economic crash comes to pass, with a major one again predicted by the Bible. Already more wars and the growth of lawlessness seems to be seeping deeper into both Western Society and into the Middle East, making this a critical time in world history.
When the Tribulation begins, as the Bible predicts in the book of Revelation, there will be far greater wars, killing and death to come, with an intense economic crisis. Whilst the Antichrist will rise up, God will pour out His wrath on the earth, until He sends Christ to destroy His enemies. The only way out, or the only path to salvation from this chaos will be to choose Jesus, because those that choose to line up with the Antichrist are promised an eternity of torment along with the Antichrist, the Beast and Satan!
Nevertheless, there is no need to be fearful of the rapidly changing world for those who chose to believe in Jesus Christ, because the God of the Bible, Jehovah, has made a way out of this fallen world, offering an everlasting place in the beautiful New Kingdom, prepared by Him for all those who turn back to Him, through His son Jesus Christ!
