As a free lance photographer, Mike Charles enjoys photographing the coast of Devon and Cornwall.
These photos of Brixham were taken on a beautiful summer day 2013. For many years I worked in a busy corporate environment.
Frequently my week involved travelling the length and breadth of the country and even when I wasn`t travelling, my office hours seemed to dictate that I was the first person in my road to leave for work in the morning and the last to return.
For much of that time I dreamed of pursuing my interests of photography and music but deeply regretted not having the time to do so.
Back in 2000 during a period of self employment, I had enrolled in a Professional Photography Diploma course however the time commitment amounted to 30 hours per week and it was not possible to earn enough in the remaining hours to pay the bills.
The result was having to leave the course after 3 months which led to a further 9 years of corporate grind!
Finally, about 4 years ago, I decided that enough was enough and that I would downsize and spend more time indulging my interests.
I particularly enjoy photographing the coast of the South-West from Somerset round to Dorset.
With the heatwave of last summer I had an excellent opportunity to jump in my VWT4 camper, throw in the camera and guitar, and drive down to the coast.
I have always been fond of Brixham having visited on several occasions in my youth and on this September morning there was excellent light with which to take these images.
The photos that you see here are a style of photography called HDR whereby you actually take three shots at the same time and then put them together for these effects.
I hope that you enjoy my photos and you can find more of Brixham on my website via this link:
