Friday 25th July saw many local people and visitors to Brixham enjoy this years display, in a fresh layout which most agreed added impact to the presentation of the exhibits, whilst on Saturday 26th seven people were inspired to join the Horticultural Society after their visit to the show!

Chairman of the Brixham Horticultural Society Lesley Smith said, “During this year we have had several new members join and moving the event to the end of the week has really paid off.” He also explained how show judge Roy Hasley had been impressed by the standard saying that, ‘this year with all the rain and wind having dashed many plants, the entrants had done well in spite of the weather.'

In the ‘Floral Art' Section Marilyn Sterling gained the Connabeer Cup and Longton Cup for her stylish Take Five Flowers and other prizes throughout the section, whilst Joan Snell gained the Silver Cup for her arrangement and interpretation of ‘Cottage Garden' in the novice class.

Whilst the focus of the Show may be on flowers, creative talents of entrants are also encouraged in the Hobby Section , where art and craft entries of painting, pottery and textile art saw June Marshall and Ann Watson jointly receiving The Powell trophy for most points in this section. The Domestic section with a large selection of handmade cakes and preserves revealed the many good cooks amongst the societies membership, and with refreshments available for those viewing the show, comments in the visitors book this year included Mrs Challenor who said, “ A lovely show, really summery and excellent catering!”
