Run Marissa. Run!
Marissa Milton has
been run off her feet lately, as she prepares to run the London
Marathon on Sunday April 17th . Marissa says,
”Its something I've always wanted to do and have applied to
get in for the last 5 years through the ballot with no success.”
However this year Marissa has gained entry, by thankfully winning
her running clubs place. |

She says, “I go running
with Brixham Harriers every Tuesday.” They meet at 7pm from
Brixham swimming pool and beginners are always welcome.
Marissa is also
training hard by doing swimming, spinning, gym and lots of
running! As apart of her training for the London Marathon,
Marissa has just completed the Brighton Half Marathon, achieving
a personal best.

Marissa ‘s desire to take part in the London Marathon is not
just because she wants to get fit, or be the fastest, but because
she wants to help others that have suffered the same injury
that affected her four years ago.
She says, “I'm trying
to raise as much money as I can for Headway, which is a brain
injury charity. The charity looks after people who have suffered
brain injuries and help them lead a normal life again. I suffered
a brain injury in 2007 in a car crash and it took a good 18months
to fully recover. Without my brain injury team looking after
me every week, I dread to think where I'd be now. Thankfully
I'm Ok now and took up running after making a recovery.”
Brixham taxi driver Marissa has taken on difficult challenges
before and succeeded. In 2004 she did a 250mile cycle ride in
South Africa over 5 days and raised £3000 for BHF – The
British Heart Foundation.
For her London Marathon
challenge Marissa won't be alone as she points out, “Brixham
Harriers are a great bunch very supportive and encouraging.
Quite a few are joining me on my long runs and I couldn't ask
for a better running club. A lot of them are even coming up
to London for the weekend to cheer me along the route.”
