| As a part of ‘Pirate Day' in Brixham,
every Thursday the Brixham Buccaneers offer a variety of activities
for families to get involved in, which includes their popular
puppet show. Mayor Nick Bye heard that one of the characters bore
similarities to himself and came to see puppet ‘Mayor Rick Rye
of the village of Brixham' tackle the infamous Captain Green Beard,
as the pirate tries to making off with the jewellery of Wendy,
‘a fair maid of Brixham'. |

|
|
| Before the show started
the two mayors came face to face and Nick Bye said, “We do both
have round faces and I did have a pair of glasses like that
and I wonder where he got his name from. I'd say it's quite
a compliment and the Buccaneers have created a great carnival
atmosphere with their presence here.” |

|
| Staying to watch the show mayor Nick
Bye saw how Mayor Rick Rye used his pet crocodile to deal with
the criminal activities of Green Beard, but the Torbay Mayor said
that ‘whilst he did go to see the crocodiles at Paignton Zoo last
week, he would never be allowed to employ them as crime stoppers!'

|
| After a photo shoot with the Pirates
and watching a session of belly dancing from Pirate Queen Kate,
the Mayor left visitors to enjoy Doubloon, alias Dave Johnson
playing to the crowds. Face painting and dressing up as pirates
kept children busy having their photos taken in costume, whilst
others lined up to ‘Soak the Pirate'. |

|
| After his session in the stocks, Pirate
No eyes Ron alias David Croney said,” From Sept 9 th – 20 th I'm
off on a sponsored bike ride around Devon. I shall be stopping
off at many of the Sainsbury's stores where Devon Air Ambulance
will be collecting. |
|
|
|
| Any sponsorship money I collect will
be split, with half going to Devon Air Ambulance and the other
half to fund the activities of the Brixham Buccaneers.”Anyone
interested in sponsoring David in this mammoth task can call at
his shop on Bolton St or Popes the electrical People on Fore St
or find him down on the Quayside on Thursdays. |
