As a part of ‘Pirate Day' in Brixham, every Thursday the Brixham Buccaneers offer a variety of activities for families to get involved in, which includes their popular puppet show. Mayor Nick Bye heard that one of the characters bore similarities to himself and came to see puppet ‘Mayor Rick Rye of the village of Brixham' tackle the infamous Captain Green Beard, as the pirate tries to making off with the jewellery of Wendy, ‘a fair maid of Brixham'.

Before the show started the two mayors came face to face and Nick Bye said, “We do both have round faces and I did have a pair of glasses like that and I wonder where he got his name from. I'd say it's quite a compliment and the Buccaneers have created a great carnival atmosphere with their presence here.”

Staying to watch the show mayor Nick Bye saw how Mayor Rick Rye used his pet crocodile to deal with the criminal activities of Green Beard, but the Torbay Mayor said that ‘whilst he did go to see the crocodiles at Paignton Zoo last week, he would never be allowed to employ them as crime stoppers!'
