This
year's Pete Cole/ Alan Castle Memorial Darts Tournament led

as tournament winner Graham Milner received his trophies and
the Youth Enquires Service YES was presented with a cheque
for six hundred pounds, from fees, activities and donations
made on the evening. |

The darts tournament was actually held at the Club in Castor
Road on Friday 16th May, with 100-130 competitors taking part,
starting at 7.30pm and going on till 1.30am! The evening organised
by Jack Daniels, saw Ray Mitchelmore loan and help set up the
dart boards all over the Sea Anglers Club, with the intense evening
of competition compared by Neil Little and Del Hodson. |

Overall winner this year Graham Milner picked up the Pete Cole
Cup with £100 prize money and also the Alan Castle cup for
the Highest Shoot Out, whilst Peter Sleep was runner up in the
competition. Having to hand the trophies back after the year,
Graham received silver salvers kindly donated by Mark Criddle
and engraved by Brixham Jewellers. Graham said, We all remember
Pete he was a great character amongst all the other fishermen

The whole event
masterminded by Jack Daniels for the past six years has been
supported by Julie Cole wife of the late Pete Cole, which includes
her donation of the trophy.
She said, This was
all Jack's idea, he knew my husband and played darts with him
when he was alive, and after his death he suggested we ought
to celebrate his life by holding a tournament. |
When Alan Castle later died the memorial tournament allowed
an opportunity to remember another friend as people from around
the town came together to play darts, with monies raised being
used to benefit local organisations.
Jack
said, The tournaments been running for six years now and in
that time we've given donations from the evening to the Fishermen's
Mission, the RLNI Torbay Lifeboat, Brixham Swimming Pool Fund,
Rowcroft and the Brixham Hospital League of Friends, as Pete's
wife Julie and Alan's wife Wendy, wanted all monies raised to
benefit Brixham.
With
over £3000 raised to date from entry fees, raffle sales
and a regular sponsorship fee of £250 from Martin Breyley
and Robin Love of Harmony Profiles Ltd, this year's cheque of
£600 was received by Chris Guy on behalf of YES. |
