The later start to this year's Cow Town Carnival was attributed to the late arrival of the Okehampton Town Band, but it was worth the wait as the long procession made its way into town along Bolton St, starting with the traditional exchange of fish and vegetables at Rea Barn Hill traffic lights.

At the divide between Brixham's longstanding areas of Cow Town and Fish Town Mayor of Cow Town John Beer presented fisherman John Lovell with a handsome box of produce donated by farmer Haddock to allow the Carnival to pass into Fish Town, and John offered a line of fish in return.

At the head of the procession commentary on the Carnival was provided by Tony Criddle as a host of floats and parading costumed characters followed on. At either end of the parade a fire engine drove past the crowds of spectators, with many parents and their young children joining the procession this year as Mini Beasts including butterflies insects and creepy crawlies.

Edgar Lawrance led the Heritage Museum historic characters whilst the Brixham Berserkers and their costumed characters followed Miss Torbay and much later in the procession Miss Harbertonford appeared.

This year All Saints Junior Church provided a scene of Moses parting the Red Sea and Ye Old pirates of Boat Cove floated along enthusiastically followed by the Brixham All Star Majorettes. Samba Jam also provided plenty of noise with their rhythmic percussion playing and there were a few novelty characters interspersed with these groups namely a princess riding a unicorn and a very young boy out flying his biplane.

Towards the end of the procession the military vehicle and the steam traction engine was a timely reminder that next weekend the Torbay Steam Fair is coming to Churston with plenty more engines to see.
