years of creating miniature wonders
When Roderick Richards retired, 20 years ago, he decided to
go back to his first love of engineering and model making. With
encouragement from his wife June, Roderick started making dolls
houses for his nephews and nieces with June furnishing them
down to miniature toilet rolls. His favourite dolls house was
based on the ‘House that Moved' in Exeter*, which was made with
such precision that only real oak was used in creating this
14th century Merchants House.

ACE
booklet THE WRITE WAY on sale in Torbay
The ACE Write Way Group meet each Thursday and their recently
completed a book of poetry and prose is the result of much laughter
mixed with serious discussion. Everyone brings their life experiences
to the sessions and their book shows adults who return to learning
can get so much from the experience.

ADULT
& COMMUNITY LEARNING COURSES at the NEW PAIGNTON LIBRARY
The new Paignton Library has been built with two rooms dedicated
for Adult & Community Learning. They will be used for Skills
for Life in Maths, English and ESOL plus a series of short courses
before Christmas to get encourage people to use this wonderful
new facility.

ACE
sales barrow brings in £200
Thanks to a donation from the Brixham Town Council the ACE
Trustees were able to purchase a barrow to sell the vegetables
and plants raised in their gardens at Brixham College. ACE is
a charity that supports physically disabled people enabling
them to attend adult education classes alongside able bodied
people.

Exhibition
moves onto Torquay library
An exhibition of photography, creative writing and painting
inspired by free taster courses at Kents Cavern has just moved
from the caves to Torquay Library where it is on show for a
month in the foyer entrance.

GARDENING AT BRIXHAM ADULT & COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTRE
Thanks to funding from the Learning Revolution campaign Katie
Babbs invited 20 people to start gardening in a brand new garden
at the Brixham Adult & Community Learning Centre which is
designed to be fully accessible for everyone.

The Story of
‘Maid of Honour'
I recently sold a painting (featured here), of a Sailing Trawler
with the curious name of ‘Maid Honour'. I based the picture
on an old photograph from Brixham Museum and subsequently found
out she had a very interesting history.

Celebrating
60 years of art!
This year the Brixham Society of Art Exhibition at the Scala
Hall marked the 60th anniversary of the group which has encouraged,
developed and presented the artwork of local people to generations
of audiences to enjoy here in Brixham.

Trial and retribution!
Brixham based community group The South Devon Players, portrayed
the fate of two women pirates in the Trial of Anne Bonney and
Mary Reed in their evening performance under the Old Fish Market
on August 27th.
