Sasha from Churston Ferrers Grammar School started sailing her new lasar dinghy with the Royal Dart Yacht Club this summer and won many events including Dartmouth Junior Regatta.

Sasha said “Most days from the start of the summer until the beginning of September I got up early in the morning no matter what the weather, rig my boat and race until late afternoons, it was very tiring but worth it. I love sailing and have been racing for five years and sailing for seven altogether”.

Sasha has competed all of her RYA sailing levels due to attending Junior Sailing every Saturday from March until September for the last three years but has previously sailed at other clubs. She commented “I felt so proud and shocked when I started to win races that I had never really taken part in before. Altogether I have won four trophies and cups and a handful of medals, including the prestigious Best Improved Helm award which I am very proud to be the owner of for the year”.

When asked if there was any special reason for getting involved in this competition, Sasha answered “I have never competed in the Dartmouth Junior regatta before and because I will be turning 16 next year, I won't be allowed to compete again”.

Sasha said she was presented with her awards at the Dartmouth Regatta rewards evening held at Dartmouth Yacht Club, “I was over the moon when I won my races on the water and received all my trophies for winning. I thought I'd never see the day”.
