The Annual Music Festival awarded trophies at a final gala concert for the best in class and best overall trophies. Churston Ferrers Grammar School Funk Band consists of students ranging from 12 to 18 years: Hugo, Laura, Laura, Holly, Dragomir, Hannah, Kelly, Eloise, Louis, Luca, Mercy and Laura together with Head of Music Nicola Guess and Geography teacher/L2L Co-ordinator Dr Ben King; won two trophies, the Sainsburys Shield for their instrumental class and the Freemen's Cup for the best overall instrumental group of the entire two week festival.

Katherine won three trophies for her classes playing the saxophone and Eloise won ten trophies for her classes on piano and flute, including the best overall individual musician of the entire competition.

The Funk band rehearses weekly and this was the first year they competed. Both Eloise and Katherine are members of many of the schools music groups including orchestra, funk band, choir and flute choir.

Last year the school orchestra won the Freemen overall cup and Eloise won individual classes.

Miss Guess, Head of Music said “I was extremely proud of all of the musical groups and individual students who competed in the festival this year. It was a great accolade for the funk band to be awarded best overall instrumental group in their first year of competing and it is great that we are able to keep the cup for another year after winning the Freemen's cup with the school orchestra last year. It was an amazing achievement for Eloise Kendall to win the best overall musician and Katherine Amey shows great promise by winning three classes at such a young age.”
