Chinese
Cuisine served up for Pupils
Year 4 pupils at Eden Park Primary
School were given a flavour of the orient in their lesson time
on Thursday June 12th. From Chinese food prepared
by local restaurant the Kam Boat, staff carefully served a mixed
plate of food for the pupils to try. |
|
|
On the menu were
Chicken Chow Mein, beef Chop Suey, Sweet and Sour Pork, Egg
fried Rice, Spring Rolls and Prawn Crackers. With some pupils
saying they had never tasted these types of Chinese dishes before,
Owen who had never eaten any Chinese food before said, “It's
lush; I want to eat it all!”
Whilst others were
unsure about certain dishes, most agreed that they liked the
Prawn Crackers best of all. |
|
Sampling the food was part of Year 4s study of other cultures.
Class teacher Miss Adele Hall said, “This term we are travelling
around the World in 80 days, stopping off every two weeks in a
different continent. This week we are in Asia, and have been looking
at Chinese New Year, Chinese Folk Stories and pupils have made
Chinese lanterns.” |
|
The next part of
the journey will take pupils to the Antarctic with media presentations
and much IT work, and finally they will go to Australia providing
another opportunity for more food tasting with a Barbie!
With this creative
approach to studying other peoples and places, Miss Hall was
also keen to stress that the programme of study links in with
the literacy and numeracy work pupils need to cover. |
Members
of Miss Griffith's and Miss Hall's class are shown here collecting
and enjoying their tasting session before evaluating the food.
