Adult Learners
nominated for awards
Each
year Adult & Community Learning celebrate the success of
students during the May national NIACE celebrations. Brixham
ACL centre had learners, tutors, volunteers and groups nominated
by their peers. |
| |
Those that did not
make it to the main celebration at South Devon College during
Adult Learners' Week were invited to a local celebration at
Brixham where the principal Mark Eager awarded the certificates
and congratulated individuals on their learning journey.
|
|
He said that he
had been an adult learner himself and this change of direction
had led him into teaching and ultimately to the headship.
Mark reminded all
present that it is never too late to learn and that parents
set good examples to their children by continuing to learn and
achieve new qualifications. |
He presented
certificates to:
Learners
- Maureen Williams, Katie Harper and Shirley Brown who won
the Topps Tiles award for achievement recently.
Classes
Dressmaking (rep: Lesley Hingston), Belly Dancing Class
(rep:Teresa Chapman) and the No Pressure Pottery class (rep:
Kelly Towning)
ACE
Volunteers - Bob Rouse and Primrose Wood who had achieved
her first aid certificate.
Tutors
- Mary Qiriaqi (Dance), Barbara John (Dressmaking), Claire
Exeter (Singing) and Florence Bonneau (French).
Katie
was the youngest recipient to receive an award for her commitment
and enthusiasm to her dancing class. Her tutor, Zoe Bowden
said At times I have forgotten more complex moves, but Katie
always reminds me and helps me. She is keen to promote dance
to all her friends and likes to practice at home. She has
developed enormously this year.
The evening concluded with drinks and nibbles and congratulations
from family and friends who attended.
