Brixham College is inviting all Year 11 students across the Bay to come and have a look at its contemporary, purpose-built Sixth Form centre, where they can meet current students and find out how they can thrive and achieve there.
With prospective students and home grown talent welcome to attend with their families, Brixham College’s Open Evening will take place on Thursday, 17th November from 6 – 8pm. It aims to give students an insight into what post 16 academic, social and personal enrichment opportunities exist on their doorstep and how its ethos, drive and strengths significantly differ from other local providers.
“Our sixth formers are achieving outstanding A Level results, making fantastic progress and accessing Russell Group Universities,” says Jason Haines, Head of Sixth Form at Brixham College which celebrated its best ever A Level results this year and a 98% pass rate. “Our strength lies in having a strong academic drive, a friendly, close knit learning community and a highly supportive team who work extremely hard to ensure every subject taught is as strong as the next,” he adds.
At Brixham College’s Sixth Form Open Evening, visitors will be able to delve into its wide range of exciting subjects, meet current students, learning mentors, teachers and tutors and tour its well-resourced Sixth Form centre. With Brixham sixth formers treated like adults and encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, it features a study with individual workstations and networked computers as well as a kitchen, the Quad Cafe and a common room.
Whatever their ambition, students can benefit from a wide range of exciting courses as well as an enhanced enrichment programme, an Eco-Garden, leadership opportunities in the form of Head Girl, Head Boy and a team of deputies, as well active involvement within a variety of committees that encompass the world of media, sports and community work. Additional enrichment initiatives include its ‘reading partner’, ‘adopt a teacher’ and ‘world of work’ schemes, as well as educational trips and residential opportunities provided through its Xtra programme.
