Treasurer's
Report
The treasurer said people
who served at the coffee morning were very good. A total of
£200 was made. Two more assistants were required for the
next coffee morning in October. The chairman said the coffee
morning proceeds went to the chosen charity for the year, and
a thank you letter had been received from YES for these proceeds.
Expenditure from funds
were £261 on books for schools, £121on insurance
and £7 for sundries. There was now £171 in the bank
with £50 to come.
Eileen asked if anyone
would like to do the job as treasurer but said she would be
happy to continue, if required.
The chairman said the
coffee morning proceeds went to the chosen charity. The next
coffee morning would be in October.
Reports
on Good Friday and Pentecost Services
There was discussion
as to whether there should be collections at these open air
services, and it was decided against. The chairman said the
Pentecost Service was excellent but a better public address
system was needed. Barbara said she would bring it up at the
church council. Ann said the stage was terrifying. The microphone
made it very difficult to position herself. It was suggested
that a blank area should be marked because of very considerable
diffculties for people walking by in Fore Street. Perhaps security
sticky tape could be used to show the perimeter of our meeting.
Alan Lott said a 10.30am
start meant people from the Roman Catholic Church could not
attend because parishoners were not allowed to miss their own
services, so the starting time was fixed at 11am for next year.
The vote was almost unanimous, there being two abstentions and
none against.
The meeting was told
people were chatting during the walk of witness on Good Friday,
which should have been conducted in meditative silence. The
Good Friday service went very well thanks to Captain Davis.
Captain Davis said
rain meant the microphone was unsafe to be used, so it was very
difficult to overcome traffic noise. The Salvation Army's portable
PA system could be used if required next year.
Scripture
Union book presentations
Help was still required
for this at Kingswear on July 19th at 1.30pm. One of the congregation
was going to host it and it would be nice to support her.
Farewell
Presentations
Farewell presentations
were made to Captain Lynne Davis of The Salvation Army and the
Rev. Ann Burden of St Marys Church, who were thanked by the
chairman for their work with CTIB.
Calendar
Events
The united service
for One World Week would be held on 24 th October and the clergy
would be asked where would be best for the venue.
Phil Marsden said
a couple of recent e-mails about the CTIB Coffee Mornings had
expressed frustration that more churches were not getting involved. He
empathised with this as he recognised the same people then ended
up doing it, but wondered what could be done, as he'd found
it difficult to elicit support from his own congregation for
them.
Are extra fundraising
coffee mornings, as well as our own, something all
the churches still feel is important? If so would it help
to cancel our own that week?
Alternatively, perhaps
we could raise funds corporately that week for the CTIB's
chosen Brixham Charity, through our existing coffee mornings.
The Treasurer said, “As
it is only two coffee mornings a year, a couple of volunteers
would be nice from each church, please.”
Please think about
this before the next CTIB meeting.
Christmas
Carol Service in the Square
The chairman said they
were thinking in terms of a small sub committee for this. It
would comprise of himself, Barbara Vond, the minister leading
the service, and Lynn Wright who kindly volunteered.
United
Service for Christian Unity
It was decided to hold
this on 23rd January 2011.
Radio Broadcast
for Christmas at Berry Head Hotel
The chairman said there
was not enough publicity between Christians about this event.
The date of this year's broadcast would be notified at the next
meeting, when the Rev Jerry Cook has confirmed the arrangements.
New ideas
for CTIB involvement
It was suggested that
if we were to help sponsor the Christmas lights there should
be Happy Christmas displayed rather than Season's Greeting.
It should be a condition of sponsorship. This was agreed and
a limit of £50 to £100 was agreed.
There was a considerable
amount of debate about shortage of manpower to allow a CTIB
presence at Brixham Hap'ning and other events. It was suggested
the group should concentrate on the things already done, rather
than attempting too much and end up doing nothing well.
Correspondence
receive
A report had been received
about Christian Aid Week, confirming a grand total of £6293
raised in Brixham this year.
Captain Lynne Davis
invited everyone to her farewell on Sunday July 11th at 3pm.
The Date
of the Next Meeting was set for Thursday October
14th at 7.30pm in All Saints Church.
The meeting
was closed by sharing the Grace together. |
